Hey, guys! Interior designer, Bryn Shilling invited us into her home for a holiday home tour and I couldn’t be more excited. I think you’ll all agree that her work and vision are incredible. So without further ado, here’s Bryn!
Its’ the most wonderful time of the year – and that means time for a HO HO HOLIDAY Home Tour with some tips for your own Christmas decorating too!
Decorating for Christmas is my absolute favorite – I kid you not when I tell you that when we were looking for a new home nearly 6 years ago, having a staircase I could decorate beautifully was on my checklist of home must-haves! So that brings me to the first stop on this Holiday home tour, my staircase! I try to keep most Christmas décor at bay until after Thanksgiving, but my stairway garland does go up mid-November! I just love it so much that I want to enjoy it extra long! I start with just a simple green garland and add on layers. Adding in layers of lights, ribbon, bows and decorative objects add so much interest, warmth and fullness to the garland. I started adding the starfish a year or two ago by hot gluing pipe cleaners on the backs of the starfish to tie them on to the garland and I love the coastal touch they add, we do live by the beach after all!
Second stop is my dining room – if you were walking in my house this would actually be the first stop as it is the first room in our home! I keep the dining table set all season long – it is such a fun and easy way to add a festive fun touch to your home! This year was the first year I added wreaths to the backs of my chairs and I love the extra greenery. Speaking of greenery, I bought some fresh eucalyptus for on the table, it smells SO good and bonus – it dries beautifully so you can enjoy it all season long!
I always love adding touches of Christmas to my kids’ rooms. They each get their own tree which they love decorating – and then they also aren’t too interested in decorating our main tree downstairs so I can make that one just how I like it. J They plug in their trees at night and use them as nightlights. I also put the softest fleece Christmas sheets on their beds for extra coziness!
Last stop, our family room and tree! Our tree doesn’t really have a theme—it is an array of ornaments from over the year that I have bought because they make me happy. Most of them are whimsical and fun, so maybe that is my trees theme, ha! When I am unwrapping each ornament every year, I just love the smiles and memories they bring to me!
I hope you enjoyed this Holiday home tour and I would love to know if you incorporate any of these ideas into your own home – or what your Christmas decorating style is!
