If you live in South Orange County or you’re planning a visit, you must try Hapa J’s in San Clemente!
Justin Shea and Chef Miggie invited FashionFoodMusic in for a special lunch last week. The entire Hapa J’s team was incredibly warm and welcoming. Upon walking in, you definitely feel a Hawaiian beach vibe with ocean photography on the walls, surfboards, and the overall laid back feel you get from everyone there. It makes you go, “Ahhhhhh…..”. 😉
Justin showed us to our booth and immediately served us with an Old School Mai Tai and White Ginger Cosmo with candied and fresh ginger in it. They both packed a punch and paired perfectly with the foods that were to follow.
Next to arrive was one of their signature dishes, the Kalua Pig Quesadilla. All I can say is, “WOW” to Chef Miggie. Hawaiian style pulled pork is stuffed into flour tortillas with a three cheese blend and then drizzled with an avocado sour cream sauce & chipotle aioli. Simply amazing!
Next was a trio of ahi poke. Traditional poke with a seaweed salad, wonton chips with ahi poke and a spicy aioli, and lastly ahi belly that was lightly seared. I absolutely loved them all, but if I had to choose, it would be the wonton chips with ahi poke and a spicy aioli. Seriously though, this is the best poke I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot of poke.
For dessert they served up a homemade Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut Cheesecake infused with macadamia nuts & chocolate chips and a graham cracker crust. They garnished it with a non-dairy whipped cream, chocolate syrup & strawberries. This was just ridiculous in such an amazing way! I’ve been dreaming about it ever since. LOL
A big thank you to Justin and Chef Miggie for such a wonderful experience. We can’t wait to come back and visit (I mean eat and drink until you have to roll us out. ;-))! For those of you visiting or who live in the area, we invite you to give this place a try and let us know what you think. Cheers and enjoy! XO
