25 Ways to Reduce Stress

You can keep stress from building up inside you by employing stress-reduction techniques on a daily basis. Try these strategies to help keep your stress at bay.

  1. Share a meal with those you love

  1. Take some deep breaths
    • Deep-breathing exercises may reduce certain types of stress and anxiety, and can temporarily lower blood pressure.  Try downloading an app to help you with this.
  2. Walk
  3. Sing out loud
    • I do this in the car and in the shower where no one can hear me.  LOL
  4. Lie down
  5. Have a good cry if you feel like you need to
  6. Ask your kids about their day
  7. Take a break from your challenges
  8. Go out for an evening with your partner or friend(s)
  9. Get out into nature

    • The soothing power of music is well-established. It has a unique link to our emotions, so it can be an extremely effective stress management tool.
  2. Let it go
  3. Go to the gym to work out
    • A good sweat session always works well for me.  My go-to workouts when I’m feeling stressed are a long run or hot yoga.  Both work wonders for me.
  4. Give yourself a break. Remind yourself that nobody’s perfect.
  5. Talk to someone about your stress
    • Sometimes just talking it out has a huge impact on reducing stress.
  6. Exercise with a videoyoga
  7. Journal your feelings
    • Sometimes there’s nothing better to quiet a busy mind than to unplug your phone and computer for an hour or so and sit alone with your thoughts.
  8. Get lost in a good book
    • Reading can relax your entire body and mind by lowering your heart rate and easing the tension in your muscles.
  9. Watch your favorite comedy on television or rent a funny movie
  10. Call a relative

  12. Go to the movies
    • Especially a comedy.  Laughter can distance you from your problems and enhance your sense of well-being.  Numerous studies have shown that laughter can help your immune system and decrease stress hormones.
  13. Play with your children
    • Playing with my nephews is seriously one of the most stress-reducing things I can do.  They make me act like a kid again and worry free!
  14. Cook something
    • A few nights a week I will come home from work, pour a glass of wine, light a candle, and play some music while I fix dinner.  I find it totally relaxing and gives me a little “me” time to unwind at the end of a long day.
  15. Use visual imagery to watch your stress drain from your body or float up, up and away
    • It uses words and images to help move your attention away from the worry, stress, and pain. This helps your mind focus on health and healing.
