The idea of sitting in the same water for the entire bath has never seemed to me the most hygienic manner of cleansing.  However, bath bombs are something of a bathing renaissance, a new kind of bath time supplement that made me view baths in a different light – a fun, relaxing, therapeutic and refreshing experience.

Bath bombs are amazing fizzy balls of bathtime joy.  Dropping one into your bathtub will get you ready to have an amazing and relaxing bathing experience.  As soon as you toss them into the water they start to fizz releasing a wonderful aroma and skin beneficial ingredients for your skin that will take your senses to a place you can only imagine.

The two main ingredients, the ones that make the bath bomb fizz, are baking soda and citric acid.  In addition other skin nourishing ingredients such as organic Shea Butter, Sunflower Oil are added. Fragrances are added to the top of the aromatherapy experience.  The uses of these products are to relax and pamper yourself, detoxify the skin from daily contaminations, also strengthen it, increase elasticity, leaving the skin soft and silky and with a wonderful aroma.

Bath Bombs are super easy to use. All you need to do is to simply fill your tub according to your preferred temperature and water level, and once the desired state is reached, drop a bath bomb into the water. Depending on the size of the bath bombs, some experts recommend cutting them in half.

Once the bath bomb is dropped into the water it will start to bubble and fizz and break apart, releasing all the essential oils and delightful aromas.  You can enter the bath at any time once the bath bomb is in the water.  No rinsing required, in fact rubbing your skin with your hands after leaving the tub will further lock in the moisturizing oils.

Let’s have a closer look at the skin benefits from each ingredient of the bath bomb:

Baking Soda

Baking Soda:

Baking soda, also known as bicarbonate of soda, or sodium bicarbonate is a natural mineral.  It is often found dissolved in mineral springs.  This substance has antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.  It is also a powerful medicinal tool effective at combating skin issues.  It is often used in cosmetic products to smooth the skin, clean and as a deodorant.  Baking soda also has a soothing affect on sunburned skin, which helps relieve the itching and burning sensations.

Citric Acid:

Citric acid is a mild organic acid.  The cosmetic industry extensively uses citric acid in hair care products as an anti-dandruff agent and in shampoos.  Being an antioxidant, it works balancing the alkaline levels in the body.  Citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges, and limes contain high levels of citric acid which is also an antioxidant that reduces the effects of aging.  It helps to repair the skin and fortify blood vessels.  Citric acid can also help loosen the damaged layer of skin.  This results in healthier, younger-looking skin being revealed from underneath the spoiled skin, giving you brighter and an effervescent complexion.

Shea butter

Shea butter:

The concentration of natural vitamins and fatty acids in Shea butter makes it incredibly nourishing and super moisturizing for the skin.  It is often used as a remedy for dry skin and to help protect the skin’s natural oils.  Its cinnamic acid and other natural properties are anti-inflammatory reduce skin inflammation and even potentially help avoid skin mutations.  This is also beneficial for some people with acne.  Shea butter aids in the skin’s natural collagen production and contains acids that protect and nourish the skin to prevent drying, skin softening and strengthening as well as wrinkle reduction.

Sea salt

Sea salt:

No matter whether your skin is dry or oily, you can always keep it bright and beautiful with sea salt as it pushes all toxins out of your body, the skin becomes soft and healthy.  It has been observed that regular sea salt baths can enhance the skin tone to a large extent.  The magnesium present in the salt prevents the retention of fluid from your skin keeping it supple, firm and youthful.  Sea salt is full of vitamins and minerals, which are required for providing proper nourishment to the skin cells.  These nutrients improve the cellular energy metabolism, keep the tissues hydrated, boost blood circulation throughout the skin surface and increase the strength of cell membranes.

Sunflower Oil

Sunflower Oil:

Due to its emollient properties, sunflower oil helps skin retain its moisture.  Sunflower oil is extremely high in Vitamin E which is essential for preventing damage to the skin cells by ultraviolet light or UVA from the sun.  Vitamin E improves the health of your skin by preventing scarring and smoothing of existing wrinkles.  Sunflower oil is also rich in vitamins A, C, and D and waxes which form a protective barrier on the skin.  Being exceptionally light and non-greasy, it gets absorbed into the skin without clogging the pores.
